I-10 West from Ramsgate to Loop 1604
This project added one to two main lanes in each
direction. In addition, the existing westbound DeZavala exit ramp
was permanently closed and the existing Woodstone exit, which
was expanded to two lanes, was resigned as the DeZavala exit. In the same area, the existing westbound entrance
ramp from Huebner Oaks was also permanently closed; traffic now continues along the
access road to the existing entrance ramp before DeZavala.
Additionally, a new eastbound to westbound turnaround was added at UTSA Blvd.

This section of I-10 experienced recurring
congestion daily due to insufficient capacity and bottlenecks caused by
obsolete ramp arrangements. The additional main lanes increased the capacity of the freeway. Most notably, the
new eastbound lanes at the entrance from Loop 1604 eliminated the bottleneck caused by large volumes of merging traffic
removing the former De Zavala exit and the preceding entrance ramp at
both of which were considered redundant given the presence of the other
entrance and exit ramps along that stretch, the dangerous and
congestion-inducing weaving that took place on the
mainlanes between those two ramps was eliminated, thus
traffic flow and safety in that area. That change also
weaving and associated congestion on the westbound access road at the
top of the hill approaching De Zavala.
Construction started in early 2012 and was completed in late 2015.
