Location:
I-35 at Spur 422 (Poteet-Jourdanton Freeway)/Palo Alto Rd.
Description: This project will reconfigure the interchange at Spur 422/Palo
Alto Rd. and replace it with a
standard surface street diamond interchange. All left hand exits will be removed.
The northbound access road will be extended through the interchange, Spur 422
south of I-35 will be realigned and a signalized intersection will be added at Patron
St.
The entrance and exit ramps along I-35 will be adjusted and the pedestrian
bridge over I-35 just north of Spur 422 will be reconstructed. Purpose: This project
is being done to upgrade several obsolete and potentially unsafe
elements of this interchange, specifically the two left exits and the
hairpin exit from northbound I-35 to Palo Alto Rd. as well as the
pedestrian overpass at Navajo St. It will also add an additional
intersection on Spur 422 to better facilitate traffic for Benavidez
Elementary and Zamora Middle Schools and will extend the northbound I-35
access road through the interchange.
